God that's a mouthful.
The title is pretty specific to what I'm doing, which isn't actually much.
I got this MMD model inside of Maya and I'm currently just beating the hell out of it. Triangles....everywhere. What a nightmare.
So far I fixed the face which actually had this huge hole missing on it's back. I don't know why.
The eyes and eyebrows/eye outlines were next. Simple stuff.
The mouth, again nothing really to change other than quadrangulating and deleting unnecessary edges.
The hair....not done at all, in fact, I'm thinking about replacing it entirely with hair strands. Probably Xgen hair or something.
The maid band, it needs work.
Then I need to rig it, and then I need to animate it. Sigh, if only MMD models weren't such a pain to import into Maya. I had to go from MMD to Blender then to Maya. In the process I lost the texture for the maid band and the existing rig.
I tried out MMD but it's just not for me. The way the models have to be animated is too cumbersome. The hair and clothing never really settles down. Better to just stomach the effort of importing into Maya and fixing it all up and animating there. I'm more used to it that way.
This was rendered with Arnold. aiStandard shaders are applied to everything save for the face geo which has an aiSkin applied to it. It's not bad. It's expensive to render but it delivers good results right out of the box. I assume by the time I finish this rework Renderman non-commercial will have been released, in which case I'll be rendering with that.
